Dental Implants

A Long-Term Solution for Replacing Missing Teeth

Dental implants are the most modern solution for replacing lost teeth, allowing for the restoration of both functionality and natural aesthetics. Implants are made from titanium, a biocompatible material with human tissues, and they can be used to replace teeth in any part of the oral cavity.

Implants not only restore the appearance of your smile but also help maintain jawbone volume and prevent its resorption over time, which often occurs after tooth loss. While dental implantation requires thorough planning and an extended treatment period, it is an investment in lifelong oral health.

Why Choose Dental Art

Dental Art clinic’s implantologists have extensive experience in restoring teeth with implants. Our specialists use high-quality titanium implants and the latest technologies to ensure functional, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable results. The clinic offers customized solutions ranging from the replacement of a single tooth to the restoration of an entire row, taking into account each patient’s specific needs and financial possibilities. Dental Art also offers treatment under sedation.

What Happens During the Procedure

The dental implant procedure is carried out in several stages:

  • First Visit: The dentist assesses the patient’s oral and dental health, performs diagnostic tests, and creates a personalized treatment plan.
  • Second Visit: The dentist opens the gum to access the jawbone. A channel matching the implant’s size and shape is created in the bone. If the bone volume is insufficient, bone grafting is performed. The implant is screwed into the bone and covered with the gum. In some cases, such as when replacing a front tooth, a temporary tooth may be placed immediately after the implant is inserted.
  • After 2–6 Months: Once the implant has fused with the bone, an X-ray is taken to confirm osseointegration. The gum is then reopened, and a healing abutment is placed in the implant for two weeks. Afterward, an impression is taken, and a custom-made crown is fabricated in the laboratory.
  • Final Stage: Once the implant is fully integrated with the bone, a permanent artificial crown is attached to the implant, providing a natural appearance and full functionality. Initially, the crown is attached with temporary cement for adjustments. Once it is perfectly fitted, it is secured with permanent cement.

What to Know Before the Procedure

Before implantation, the patient’s oral cavity must be thoroughly examined to assess the condition of the jawbone and soft tissues. Each patient’s journey to full tooth replacement with an implant is unique. It may vary in terms of required procedures, time, and financial investment. All these factors will be defined during your first visit to avoid unnecessary surprises during the treatment process.

In some cases, preparatory procedures such as bone grafting or additional procedures like soft tissue transplants may be necessary to ensure an aesthetically pleasing result. During the first visit, it is essential to inform your dentist about your medical history, current health issues, allergies, and medications you are taking.

If you smoke, it is MANDATORY to inform the dentist.

Recommendations and Aftercare

  • Mild swelling or discomfort in the first few days after implant placement is normal.
  • Avoid exposure to heat: do not drink hot beverages, bathe in hot water, or engage in activities that dilate blood vessels.
  • Do not eat for at least two hours after implant placement.
  • Consume only soft foods for two weeks after the procedure. Avoid chewing on the side of the jaw where the implant was placed.
  • To alleviate pain and improve comfort, you may take pain relievers and, if necessary, antipyretic medications.
  • Avoid dairy products for three days after surgery, as they contain bacteria that can hinder healing.
  • Refrain from smoking, as it can delay healing.
  • Do not vigorously rinse your mouth to avoid disrupting the blood clot that aids tissue healing.
  • Avoid contact with the wound: do not touch it with your tongue, toothbrush, dental floss, or toothpick.
  • For two to five days post-surgery, swelling and minor bruising may persist. Reduce swelling by applying an ice pack or frozen vegetables wrapped in a towel to the swollen area every two hours for about 20 minutes. To reduce swelling, sleep in a semi-sitting position using high pillows.
  • A small amount of blood in saliva is normal, but if heavy bleeding occurs, stop it by applying a dry cotton swab to the bleeding area for 10 minutes. If the bleeding does not stop, consult your dentist immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are dental implants, and how do they differ from other prosthetic methods?

Dental implants are artificial tooth root replacements surgically inserted into the jawbone. Unlike traditional methods such as bridges or dentures, implants do not place stress on adjacent teeth but act as a standalone support. They provide a natural appearance and stability while preserving the jawbone structure, which typically diminishes after tooth loss.

How is a dental implant placed, and how long does the procedure take?

The procedure usually involves several stages. In the first step, the implant is placed into the jawbone, followed by a healing period of 3–6 months to allow the implant to integrate with the bone. Afterward, a prosthetic element—a dental crown—is installed. The entire process can take anywhere from a few months to a year, depending on the patient’s jawbone, oral health, and treatment plan.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of dental implants?

Dental implants offer a natural look, durability, and comfort without affecting neighboring teeth. They prevent jawbone resorption and fully replace missing teeth. However, implants can be relatively expensive, and the process may take longer. While implants successfully integrate in 95% of patients, there is a slight risk of complications during the healing process.

Are dental implants suitable for everyone?

Implants are suitable for most patients, but overall health and jawbone volume play a significant role. In some cases, preparatory procedures like bone grafting may be required before implantation. Patients with chronic conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes, should discuss implant options carefully with their dentist.

What is the recovery process after dental implant placement?

Mild swelling or discomfort may occur after the procedure, usually subsiding within a few days. Heavy pressure on the implanted area should be avoided during the first few weeks. Patients should follow dietary restrictions, avoid smoking, and adhere to their dentist’s instructions for optimal healing. Regular dental visits and professional cleanings are essential to maintaining implant health in the long term.

Why is replacing a tooth with an implant so expensive?

Implants are a long-term investment as the procedure involves highly skilled surgeons, biocompatible materials, and customized prosthetics. Implant placement also requires advanced equipment and a tailored approach for each patient. Despite the higher initial costs, implants are a long-term solution that pays off over time.

Do dental implants come with a warranty?

Dental implants typically include a warranty, depending on the manufacturer. The warranty may cover material defects or failure of implant integration within a specific timeframe. Patients must follow post-operative instructions and schedule regular dental check-ups to maintain warranty conditions.

Can I undergo an MRI or pass airport security with dental implants?

Yes, you can undergo an MRI as implants are made from non-magnetic materials like titanium. Airport security checks also pose no issues, as metal detectors do not detect dental implants.

Will my insurance policy cover the cost of dental implants?

Depending on your insurance policy, the cost of dental implants may be partially or fully covered. Present your policy during your visit, and our administrators will provide all the necessary information.
