What to know before the procedure
Before starting treatment, make sure you have informed your dentist about all allergies and medications you are taking to avoid possible complications.
Before installing a root canal inlay, a thorough diagnosis of the tooth and endodontic treatment (cleaning of the canals) are performed. You will have the opportunity to choose between cast metal inlays and zirconia inlays. Cast inlays are more durable but less aesthetic, while zirconia inlays are an excellent solution for restoring front teeth, as they provide a more natural look.
The procedure usually takes place in two stages: preparation and fabrication of the inlay in the laboratory, followed by installation of the inlay. In total, this can take 1-2 weeks.
What happens during the procedure
After a thorough diagnosis of the tooth and prior endodontic treatment, the inlay is placed in the following sequential steps:
- The dentist removes part of the endodontically filled canal filling to prepare the space for the inlay. An impression of the tooth is taken and sent to a dental laboratory, and the tooth opening is temporarily filled with a temporary filling.
- In the laboratory, an accurate root inlay is made of metal or zirconium, depending on the selected material and the location of the tooth to be restored.
- The finished inlay is placed in the root of the tooth and secured with high-quality cement, creating a stable foundation for further tooth restoration.
- Once the inlay is securely secured, a dental crown or bridge is placed on it, fully restoring the functionality and natural appearance of the tooth.
