Dental Treatment with No Pain and Fear

Do you remember yourself being a kid sitting at the dentist’s with a heart-stopping fear and stomach feeling numb? This fear in front of the “Dentist” door-plate and fear of the sound of the dentist’s drill is familiar to many of us. Dentophobia, or fear of dentists, is what makes us go to the dentist more seldom than it is needed.

Due to modern technologies, fear of pain and fear of dentists are fading. Dentists all over the world are using sedation for dental treatment and prosthetics as well as for preventing teeth and oral cavity problems. Dental Art is a clinic where we also offer sedation for our patients’ maximum comfort.

Sedation – the best solution both for patient and dentist

What is sedation? Sedation is leading a patient to a half-dreaming state with the help of “laughing gas”. The method of superficial sedation used in dentistry brings the relief from fear and the feeling of relaxation to the patient. As a result, our patients do not know what “I’m afraid to go to the dentist!” means anymore.

Dentists in clinics in the US, England and Israel have been successfully applying laughing gas in dentistry for a long time. This technology has little contraindications and is particularly widespread in child dentistry. Our dentists use sedation for their little patients to get relief from stress related to teeth treatment so that they would not have fear when going to the dentist regularly.

Also, sedation helps treat several teeth during one visit. Usually small children cannot remain sitting in a dental chair for more than 10 minutes. However, sedation can increase the procedure period up to 40-60 minutes which significantly decreases the number of necessary dentist appointments.

How does sedation work?

Laughing gas is a trivial name for nitrious oxide. This gas has been successfully used in surgery and gynecology for several decades.
For several years, an American company named Matrx has been working out a device producing a relaxing breathing mixture that consists of 30% of oxygen and 70% of laughing gas. This is a completely reliable device with electronic control with error protection system in calculating component amounts. Gas supply in the device is automatic.

The mixture comes through the nasal mask to the nasal cavity while the breathed out air is extracted by a high-speed pump. Taking into account the patient’s age and health condition, the dentist calculates the dose on the device, but can also change it during the procedure.

While the patient inhales the laughing gas through the mask, he feels calmness and relaxation. During the procedure, the patient is conscious, can react and talk to the dentist. As soon as he takes the mask off at the end of the procedure, the laughing gas effect stops.
Now during the procedures with the dentist the patient feels emotional comfort, relaxation and tranquility. And no fear!

What one should know about sedation:

  • Sedation is not anesthesia – it just provides a slight pain-relieving effect. However, only general anesthesia or local anesthetics can make the dental treatment procedure painless.
  • This is not anesthesia, inert gas leaves the body at the end of the procedure, so the patient can drive right after dental treatment with sedation;
  • With children, the dentist has to create a psychologically comfortable environment; otherwise, the gas will not help reach stress relief. Dentists recommend using sedation at the very first visit, except for very early age or contraindications;
  • For adults, the fear of dentists is the indication of using sedation. However, there are more contraindications to use nitrious oxide in dentistry for adults, such as chronic diseases, alcohol and drug addiction, head traumas, etc.

Dental treatment without pain and fear has become a reality! As our clinic offers dental treatment with sedation, many patients have made appointments with our dentists and have already successfully gone through unpleasant dental problems.
